The NRA CCW course is an intermediate-level course designed to teach the fundamental skills and responsibilities required to carry a handgun for personal protection.
The course takes 8-10 hours to complete and consists of classroom work and range training. The classroom portion of the course can be competed in the comfort of your own home or other informal classroom setting and can be split over two or more days.
Learning modules include:
Module 1: Firearm Safety
Module 2: Pistol Nomenclature and Defensive Firearm Selection
Module 3: Defensive Ammunition Selection
Module 4: Fundamental Defensive Pistol Skills
Module 5: Drawing from a Concealed Holster
Module 6: Stoppage and Malfunction Remediation
Module 7: Mindset
Module 8: Carry Modes and Handgun Concealment
Module 9: Firearm Cleaning and Basic Maintenance
Module 10: Sport Shooting and Training
Module 11: Live Fire Practical Exercises and Qualification
During this course we will also discuss:
- Use of lethal force considerations
- The five elements of self-defense (Avoidance, Innocence, Imminence, Proportionality, Reasonableness)
- Conflict avoidance and de-escalation techniques
- Laws pertaining to the lawful purchase, ownership, transportation, use, and possession of firearms
- Best practices for interacting with law enforcement after a violent encounter
This course includes a written exam, live fire practical exercises, and a live fire qualification so you can be confident in your ability to safely and responsibly carry your handgun for self-defense.
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be issued an official NRA CCW training certificate.
Successful completion of this course satisfies the State of Colorado's training requirement for issuance of a concealed handgun permit.
