Introduction to firearms

Never shot a firearm before? Are you thinking about buying a firearm for recreational or personal defense and not sure where to start? Are you interested in learning a little more about shooting before making your decision?

Let's go to the range!  In this all-on-the-range 4 hour course, we'll review things like -

• Essential gun safety and handling rules
• Safe and responsible firearm ownership
• Different types of pistols and which one is best for you
• How to load, unload, and make a gun safe
• Handgun nomenclature and operation
• Ammunition nomenclature and how it works
• The fundamentals of pistol shooting and marksmanship
• Handgun cleaning and basic maintenance 
• Live fire where you'll have an opportunity to shoot several different types of handguns

The good news is that you don't need any of your own equipment.  Guns, ammunition, ear, and eye protection will all be provided.

This course satisfies the State of Colorado's training requirement for issuance of a concealed handgun permit; however, a certificate of completion will be issued only if the participant can demonstrate safe handgun handling, operation, and marksmanship proficiency. But, don't worry - we're certain we can get you there!  

NOTE: After July 1, 2025, this course will no longer meet the  State of Colorado's training requirement for issuance of a concealed handgun permit.

Equipment you will need for this course:

• Weather appropriate attire (hat, coat, etc.)
• Range appropriate attire (closed toe shoes, no loose or baggy clothing, shorts are discouraged)
